Yi Zou (Sophie) spent nine years building her career at Tencent, one of China’s largest internet companies. Starting as a fresh-faced new graduate, she ascended to the position of a Content Strategy Program Manager (P11 level, equal as L6 in Meta).
In 2022, Sophie embarked on a new chapter when she moved to Dublin, Ireland, to pursue her Master’s degree at Trinity College Dublin. She was driven by a quiet apprehension towards the growing biases of content algorithms, a shift that she had sensed during her time at the heart of the digital content ecosystem.
Unlike a traditional content strategist, Sophie’s expertise was forged from a diverse and hands-on journalism journey. She progressed through the ever-evolving landscape of Chinese social media, tackling everything from in-depth new media reporting and social media operations to user growth and community UX. This multifaceted experience allows her to connect the dots between micro-level content operations and macro-level user growth, offering a unique, holistic perspective on how to build and expand digital communities.
Sophie’s work extends beyond conventional content. She once partnered with an artist to launch an NFT project on a consumer platform, a venture that generated over 600,000 RMB in sales in half a day. Yet, the true highlight for her wasn’t the transaction volume, but the profound insight she gained into the fusion of commercial sales and creative exploration within a new business model.
Through the projects and accomplishments showcased here, you will gain a deeper understanding of Sophie’s professional journey and her vision for the future of digital content.
